Flowers, cactuses, bonsai and green walls are not only for decoration. They bring peace and serenity to our lives. Candles, incense and atmosphere fragrances with evocative names like "flowering apple frees", "kitchen garden in the spring" and "nature after the rain" take us on a nostalgic promenade far from our everyday worries and cares. The latest find is the pastoral bouquet. Field flowers such as milfoil, lisianthus and dill have found their way into urban homes. Florists offer arrangements that seem to be freshly cut from the garden or picked along a country road. Several vases are always better than one. You can use different heights or identical vases. Bud vases can be used to create floral arrangements at little expense as you only need one flower per vase. Fireplaces and consoles can be turned into poetic rural scenes. Extra large vases are also very trendy. Grouped together in two or threes at floor level, they hold stylised Japanese-type branches or architectural flowers such as arum lilies. Artificial flowers and plants are perfect for this type of large floral arrangement. Artificial does not necessarily mean kitsch and old-fashioned. Today, even close-up, textile flowers can fool us. We need to touch the petals and smell the flowers to realise that they are only an illusion. Some designers such as Hervé Gambs have even made them smell like real flowers and plants ! His highly refined productions, like those of Emilio Robba's, rank as haute couture. You can now have your own vertical garden like the façade of the new Quai Branly Museum in Paris or the Atheneum Hotel in London. Green Walls, though still uncommon in individual homes, are flourishing. The process was developed by artist and botanist Patrick Blanc whose walls now grace museums, hotels and boutiques the world over. The vegetation wall, perceived as the green lung of the private home, is halfway between a garden and a work of art. Planted with exotic species, it remains green all year and is not affected by the seasons. It requires little maintenance because watering is automatic. A built-in pump system irrigates the wall with continually recycled water. The only thing you have to do is clip it from time to time and pick up the dead leaves ! But if you don't have green thumbs or a lot time to spare, potted trees are a good alternative. They are maintained at the same height by replacing their natural sap with a substitute sap just after pruning. After being given this elixir of youth, the tree's growth and degeneration are arrested. The plant remains supple and green and, in the case of certain very aromatic species such as the eucalypt, it even keeps its fragance. You have nothing to do except dust it from time to time. It can be adapted to make original designs such as green ceilings made of foliage, raised trees or a mini-forest. You no longer need to go the country to take a refreshing break ! Joséphine Mouranchon (our grandmother) set up a scented plant distillation company called Mouranchon Frères.

Patrick Blanc (1953) is a scientist for CNRS, the botanist who invented the Vertical Garden.
The Vertical Garden or Vegetal Wall was conceived after many observations in natural environments. It relies on a new way to grow plants without any soil.
Since its weight is very light, it is possible to set up the Vertical Garden on any wall without any size or height limitation.
The Vertical Garden is composed of a metal frame, a PVC layer and a layer of felt
The Vertical Garden can be implemented outdoor or indoor, in any climatic environment. The plant species selection is mainly set according to the prevailing climatic conditions. For indoor location, an artificial lighting is usually required. The Vertical Garden acts as a phonic and thermic isolation system and an air purification device. It can last 30 years.
