Huge success of the 50th edition of the International Furniture Fair which held in Milan from April 12 to 17. More than 320.000 visitors (professionals of the sector, journalists and general public) went through the exhibition space of 200.000 m² to discover the novelties of more than 2700 international exhibitors. The increasing number of visitors, the waiting list of companies wishing to exhibit, as well as the programme of high quality collateral events show once again that it is the most important event of the year dedicated to furniture.

1000 Architectural Details: A Selection of the World's Most Interesting Building Elements by Alex Sanchez Vidiella, Firefly Books, 2010, 296 p.

"1000 Architectural Details" is a reference catalog to buildings' structural features. In photography and drawings, the authors discuss how function meets form to create outstanding architecture and design. The material has been selected for its capacity to inspire and propose innovative ideas on how to approach the design or construction of different parts of a project.
Divided into 15 thematic chapters, the details are numbered from one to a thousand, and each is illustrated with a close-up photograph or drawing and explained in a concise caption. The authors begin with primary structural elements, such as columns and beams, and a section on materials and their properties covers the finishings commonly used, such as concrete and steel.
This is a fascinating volume packed with comprehensive illustrations and the most current expert information. Professionals, do-it-yourselfers and anyone with an interest in design will find it eminently practical.

If the door has been subject to many architectural researches over the centuries, it has been forgotten in contemporary architecture. According the architects Antoine Adda and David Laredo, that is due to the fact that the door stands at the crossroads of many professions: carpenters, metalworkers and glassmakers, who do not work together as they used to in the past. This is why &ldquoPassage Portes et Poignées&rdquo positions itself as a coordinator between the different professions to create new models and treat all doors as real projects.

As a transitional object, a door defines and organises space, insulates noise and odours but can also protect, hide and provide privacy. Discrete, it slides into the wall to be better forgotten. Decorative, it is adorned with precious materials or transformed into a piece of art&hellip
