Zeynep Fadillioglu
Zeynep Fadillioglu was born in Istanbul in 1955. She started her licence studies of Computer Science at the University of Sussex, and graduated from the Computer Programmıng and System Analysıs at Control Data Institute. In 1978 she followed a rather different path, when she attended the Inchbald School of Design to embark on an Art History and Design course.

Zeynep grew up in the Bosphorus neighbourhood of Istanbul, a melting pot of cultures where the Armenian and Greek Orthodox Church bells rang opposite the mosque, an element which serves as Zeynep&rsquos main inspiration today. Zeynep was surrounded by design from a young age, her grandfather was a textile magnate and her house was full of Sevres and Meissen china as well as Fabergé. She was always drawn to the rooms where the Ottoman pieces were kept and began collecting them when she started living in London. In 1995 she founded Zeynep Fadillioglu Design.

Zeynep is known for embracing the rich heritage of her homeland whilst also realising the importance of being universally appealing. She has won many plaudits around the world and, with the opening of the Sakirin mosque in 2009, Zeynep Fadillioglu achieved the great honour of being the first woman to design a mosque.
