Art Paris Art Fair 2014 looks East. From 27th to 30th March 2014, some 140 international galleries from 20 countries will come together at the Grand Palais in Paris to present a wide-ranging panorama of modern and contemporary art, including photography, design and art publications. The selection of galleries for 2014 goes one step further towards confirming the event&rsquos new identity and direction adopted three years ago: a European fair that explores Eastern lands (Central Europe, Middle East and Asia.).

Alongside the galleries that came as part of last year&rsquos invitation to Russia as guest of honour, a number of galleries are coming in response to the invitation of China this year. Several Asian galleries are also joining such as Hua Gallery (London), Adler Subhashok Gallery (Bangkok) and 313 Art Project (Seoul).

    Chevalier Edition

Since its launch in 2008, Chevalier édition aims to offer a different and innovative approach to contemporary rug through collaborations with various contemporary artists and designers. A new collection is launched every year, overseen by the artistic director Stephan Lanez.. For the 2013 collection, Chevalier edition contacted some of the most renowned French architectural practices and asked them to conceive a rug reflecting their vision of space and artistic universe. Five new collaborations enrich the existing catalog :  Aldric Beckmann and Françoise N&rsquothépé / Beckmann N&rsquothépé, Dominique Jakob et Brendan MacFarlane / Jakob + MacFarlane, Stéphane Maupin, Nicolas Michelin / ANMA, Dominique Perrault and Gaëlle Lauriot-Prevost / DPA.

Each of the rugs composing this new collection has its own esthetics making it truly original, the common thread being the clearly three-dimensional perception of the support. The architects, used to large scale projects, to shapes and volumes unfolding in the space, were on this occasion confronted to a different task they did not conceive a mock-up later becoming a building but a drawing becoming an object that we place on the floor. Through the various graphic or architectural and visual or tactile effects that play with our senses, the surfaces manage to recreate the volume. Thanks to the special vision of the architects &ndash unusual in the field of contemporary rug &ndash and the high quality execution, these pieces have an incredible presence and introduce the urban infrastructure into our interiors in a very subtle way.

Chevalier Edition will be  present at the Furniture Fair in Milan from 8 to 13 April 2014 Hall10 Booth F22bis.

Drawing from the Strength of the Other.

For all time - and now more than ever - the strategic formation of the couple, the duo, has been one of the most exciting and productive combinations there is.  To believe it, one need only go to museums, galleries, and the walkways of great, international fairs.  Throughout the history of art, particularly architecture and design, creative teams - married or just collaborators - have always occupied a very unique position.  Ray and Charles Eames come immediately to mind, as do Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret, Lily Reich and Mies van der Rohe, or even closer, SANAA, Doshi Levien, or Pool.  For each of these examples, it would be impossible to trace the individual paths of creation, for each duo's history is imbedded in a constant process of counterbalance, echo, and trompe l'oeil.  Furthermore, what is the interest?  The couple is not a fixed image or diagram of proportions rather, the duo represents a privileged space of exchange, of complementarity, and of mutual influence.

There is no doubt that Hélène and Olivier Lempereur belong to this family of artists, for so much of their work reflects an intimate knowledge facilitated by the continual interplay of their daily interactions.  For every project, the duo receives and listens to the clients' wishes, then interprets and translates according to the inclinations of their unique sensibilities.  Then the process of creation begins, finding structure as the phases interconnect, binding together until culminating in the final realization of the clients'dream.  To this duo, Olivier brings interior design and cabinetry, drawings and first intuitions, spark and volume. Hélène, the stylist and art aficionado, contributes research and her unique use of materials, form and light.  Two forces that unite to enhance beauty as it develops in volumes, like the depth of an eye rendered sublime by the light touch of make-up, or by the subdued harmony of a landscape that comes alive under the colors of twilight.  With each stage of the process, the work of one is nourished by the other and even more, from their family life, from their shared history, and from all that unites them.
