It is most important to select the nicest skins or nacre, to then find the right harmony of shapes, colours and materials and to finally pay particular attention to details and finishing; process which aims at creating unique objects. 

    De Nacre et d’Orient also takes up the challenge set by materials and their constraints, in particular with shagreen, which has many technical restrictions, and offers objects of very high precision and originality in the patterns used (such as geometrical patterns, stripes, capitons) as well as in their shapes (oval, round, dome-shaped).

    Crafts is at the heart of everything, they work closely with various European makers to develop and produce all their pieces. Everything they do is shaped by the hands of a maker. Whether it’s glass blowers, carpen-ters, ceramicist, metal spinners or most recently, cork experts, they find the talent that is needed in small, specialised European workshops.

    Graduated from the Camondo interior design school in Paris, Frederic Gaunet ha been working in the cosmetics business for more then ten years. This allowed him to work for numerous prestigious brands such as:Dior, Guerlain, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Issey Miyake, Yves Saint-Laurent , Clarins...In 2005 he decided to go back to his original love: product design. His first designs are a modern interpretation of Tolix, a historic brand in metal furniture. Immediately, his designs are

    Frédéric Gaunet

His first designs are a modern interpretation of Tolix, a historic brand in metal furniture. Immediately, his designs are produced and the press follws, giving a large audience to Frederic's work. Frederic Gaunet now worksin the hospitality business, designing furniture for boutique hotels and also for foreign furniture companies.
