    A fondue set is a set of utensils and appliances specially designed to prepare and enjoy fondue dishes, a method of cooking and sharing food that consists of soaking pieces of meat, bread or other food in a hot or melted liquid.

    Fondue sets are popular in many parts of Europe and are used to prepare a variety of fondues including cheese fondue, Burgundy fondue (meat), Chinese fondue (broth), and chocolate fondue.

    Fondue bourguignonne (meat): For fondue bourguignonne, these sets are equipped with a metal pan, often stainless steel, to fry small pieces of meat in hot oil. A gas or alcohol stove keeps the oil at the right temperature. Fondue forks with tips to hold the meat are provided.

    Chinese fondue (broth): Chinese fondue sets are designed to prepare fondue in a flavored broth. They usually include a pan to heat the broth, a stove, and fondue forks with tips to sear meat or vegetables.

    Chocolate fondue: These sets are specially adapted to the preparation of chocolate fondue. They include a small ceramic or enameled cast iron caquelon to melt the chocolate, as well as a stove to hold the hot chocolate. Fondue sticks are provided to dip pieces of fruit, cookies or marshmallows into melted chocolate.
