Based in Venice, Italy, FDV Group was established in 2002 with the goal of combining multiple Italian lighting brands to create a singular international presence. Each of the brands under the FDV lighting umbrella has their own specific design strengths and identities, using mostly handmade Murano glass but also other quality materials, updated technology and lighting knowledge in their own way to create one-of-a-kind Italian lighting fixtures. While the individuality of their separate brands is important, so, too, are the characteristics that each brand shares to create the overall design philosophy of FDV. The designs are modern but also are deeply rooted in tradition, and all of the brands in the FDV collection have a history in and respect for traditional Italian glassmaking and Italian lighting design. They are also focused on quality, furthered by research and innovation in lighting design and lighting technology. Although the same company has been operating in the lighting industry since 1975, under the name Firme di Vetro and even before under the names of the single brands that since have become part of the company, namely: I Tre, Murano Due, Aureliano Toso, Gallery Vetri d'Arte and Alt Lucialternative. In 2007, FDV acquired architectural lighting company Luxit, followed in 2008 by the acquisition of world renowned decorative lighting company Leucos.
