The model A Chair has become an icon of industrial design. His unwavering popularity since 1934 did enter the Vitra Design Museum collections, MoMa and the Centre Pompidou. This mythical seat in stamped plate is imposed "by its solidity foolproof, its unparalleled lightness, its easy to keep clean," benefits to which came at the time add "price reduced". All the credit goes to Xavier Pauchard (1880-1948) who was a pioneer of the galvanization in France. Based in Burgundy, Autun, he reveals himself in the aftermath of the great war, a visionary entrepreneur and inventive at the head of a flourishing manufacture of housewares in galvanized sheet steel which are at the time the epitome of domestic comfort.
