Thomas Bastide's selection

Thomas Bastide was born in 1954 in Biarritz, France and has live in Paris all his life. Influenced by the artistic fervour of his family circle, Thomas Bastide whose father was a writer and his mother a Swedish painter, felt a strong leaning towards design since early childhood. His personal affinities focus on volume, the "third dimension". Carried away by his passion, he trained and majored in art and design at the National College of Graphic Arts, and in industrial design at the National College of Decorative Arts and Crafts (ENSAAMA) in 1980. His first Professional experience allowed him to collaborate with the design celebrity Raymond Loewy. In 1981, he joined Baccarat and is still today its resident designer. The famous Crystal manufacturer has already edited 1200 of his créations. In 1989 Thomas Bastide was awarded the "International Tabletop Award" in Dallas, USA, for a collection of vases named "Neptune". His two collection of contemporary furniture presented at the VIA in 1992 and 1994 attracted much attention and earned him two prizes. In his parisian residence, he has set up a studio and workshop housing a kiln, a sandbaster, saws and Tools and he brings to life bold sculptures combining the clearness of glass with other media such as concrete and metals. Acclaimed world-wide, his works encompass stunning designs commissioned by renowned french luxury brands other than Baccarat, such as Hennessey, Puiforcat, Kostka, Bleu Nature, Lagostina, Claude Dozorme...
