    Description

    Console from the collections of the comte de Quelen

    Period : France, Régence period, circa 1720.
    Material : carved giltwood ; Rance de Belgique marble.
    Dimensions : 33 ½ in. high (85 cm.) ; 63 ¾ in. wide (162 cm) ; 25 ¼ in. deep (64 cm).
    Bibliography : collection of the comte de Quelen, sold in Paris, Hôtel Drouot, December 9-10, 1931, by auctioneers André Desvouges and Robert Jeanneau, lot 205.
    Description

    This carved giltwood console features a curvilinear frieze, lavishly elaborate, centered with a large oblong pierced rosette, bordered with ribboned rushes. It is underlined with pierced volutes crested with acanthus leaves, adjoining generous scrolls, enhanced with acanthus and fleurets at each extremity.
