Artist Biography:
Henry Rul was a Belgian Realist painter of landscapes. He was a student of K. Pouwelsen in Middelburg and also of Joseph Van Luppen in Antwerp. He started exhibiting his oeuvre at the Antwerp Salon in 1882. He was a co-founder of the artistic group "De XIII" in 1891 and also secretary of "Als Ik Kan" in 1893. Henry Rul painted in De Kempen near Kalmthout and sometimes in Holland. He started off painting Realist melancholic works, but under the influence of his contemporary Henry Luyten his palette became more luminous from 1890 onwards.
