A 17th Century Style Wrought Iron Faldistorium or ?Bishop?s Chair?. The gilded, X -shaped folding frame having a tanned-hide back, armrests and seat, the brass feet and finials of compressed form. Italy, Mid 20th Century. Height: 28.5? Width: 42? Depth: 18? (The Faldistorium was introduced in the 16th century and was intended for ecclesiastical use. When viewed from the front the supports form an X, considered then as an interpretation and affirmation of authority)
