Description

Pair of large chased and gilded bronze andirons in the Louis XVI style. The stem, adorned with a frieze of posts, is connected to the head of the oak trees by a scroll decorated with acorns and oak leaves. The head, in the form of a cassolette topped with a torch, is decorated with typical Louis XVI style decorative motifs: oak-leafed rushes, frieze of eggs, gadroons, frieze of pearls... French work from the 1870s, original gilding.  Dimensions: H 51 x W 18 x D 74 cm.
