    Description

    Magnificent secretaire with drop front executed for the court of Spain.

    Marquetry on all sides with palaces and ruins on the outside and vases and musical instruments on the inside of the piece.

    The upper part opens to reveal ten drawers and a secret niche; the lower part conceals a chest with a shelf.

    Very beautiful decoration in chiseled ormolu composed of acanthus leaves, capitals, lion and goat head?s masks, friezes, palmettes, etc.



    Period: France, late Louis XVI

    A desk by Denizot with a marquetry panel with similar ruins was sold at Christies on July 6, 1978.

    A secretaire with drop front in the same spirit with similar marquetry panels was sold at Christies on December 10, 1992.
