What is a Mongolian yurt? From Iran to Siberia stretches Central Asia, land of vast spaces and extensive livestock farming. Often poor, the pastures require nomads to move very frequently, which is why they invented a suitable type of housing: the yurt. The yurt has thus become the mobile home of Central Asian nomads, a kind of tent, more or less spacious and cozy, but its main characteristic is that it can be quickly assembled and disassembled, it is sturdy, resistant to wind and weather for many years, and takes up little space.

    1. Walls made of interlaced wooden lattice assembled in circles from a frame that serves as an opening, on which a wooden door is sometimes attached, often doubled with a felt carpet. The smallest Mongolian yurts have three walls, the largest can have up to ten, resulting in an interior surface area ranging from 15 to 90 square meters.
    2. A roof composed of painted wooden poles attached on one side to the lattice of the palisades (walls) and fixed on the other side around a circle that holds them together, which is itself supported by pillars.
    3. The elements placed on this round structure are highly resistant, with thick felt carpets covered by a white embroidered canvas that is attached with ropes.
    4. Yurts are either placed directly on the ground or on a platform.
